Dan brings decades of experience as a general counsel, business executive and legal advisor to nonprofits, political organizations and startups.  

He has held leadership roles in multi-million-dollar organizations, including serving as interim CEO, COO, and General Counsel, and helped launch and sell a successful technology startup. 

As outside general counsel, Dan advises clients on all aspects of operation and management of tax-exempt organizations, lobbying and election matters, corporate governance, federal and state grant compliance, and complex organizational transactions.  His counsel emphasizes clarity, creativity, and cost-effectiveness.  

Representative matters include:

  • Advising global nonprofits on all aspects of operations and management, lobbying and political activities, corporate governance, grant compliance, and complex transactions across all 7 continents, including Antarctica.

  • Advising a national nonprofit on the capitalization of the U.S. Green Bank, helping to secure over $5 billion in federal funding through the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

  • Providing legal and strategic counsel for an Emmy-nominated television special and international documentary film on climate change reaching audiences in over 180 countries.

  • Leading legal and operational planning for expeditions and events connecting global business leaders, athletes, scientists, and artists to climate advocacy initiatives.

  • Serving as Deputy Chief Counsel to the Democratic National Convention Committee and as counsel to national and state based political organizations.

Dan serves on the Board of Directors of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, USA, and on the Executive Advisory Board for the Salazar Center for North American Conservation, founded by former U.S. Secretary of the Interior and Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar.
